Touch-a-Truck #10

This morning, Peter and I took Philip to the Tenth Annual Touch-a-Truck event hosted by the Ashland Public Library. A year ago, my mom and I took Philip to the event for the first time. The weather was just as hot this year, but that’s where the similarities ended. Unlike last year, Philip was much more interested in looking at the various vehicles and climbing inside. There were still some vehicles that made him nervous. He was most afraid of vehicles like the school bus that had narrow entrances that prevented Philip from seeing what was inside.

Not only did Peter go along, but my brother and his family also met us for the event. My younger niece offered to escort Philip inside several of the vehicles. Despite having her as a helper, I didn’t get as many pictures as I would have liked. I’ve included a slide show below, but it really doesn’t do justice to the variety of vehicles on display.

I was really happy that Philip wasn’t scared of the Bookmobile. When he started preschool last fall, we got reports that he cried when the staff took Philip on board the mobile library. This morning, he walked right in like he owned the place.

There was a sad note at today’s event. Earlier this week Drew Bates was killed in an accident at Bates Garage & Towing while he was working on a vehicle to bring to Touch-a-Truck. I did not know Mr. Bates personally, but his daughter was in Philip’s preschool class last year. My heart goes out to her and the rest of Mr. Bates’ family.
UPDATE: Here is a link to the Ashland Public Library’s Facebook photo album of the event.

What do you have to say about that?
