Fitness Friday: drive

My best friend and I use a private Facebook group to talk about our health and fitness. That’s where I post my daily FitBit reports as she holds me accountable.

Last week in response to my step count post she asked, “What is driving you?”

As I answered her question, I realized something important. There isn’t just one thing that motivates me. Do I have a target weight I want to reach? Yes, but that is a long term goal that can seem so elusive. It would be too easy to give up when the scale doesn’t budge.

I am motivated by my FitBit stats but those are just numbers. Sometimes the numbers only tell part of the story.

Right now, I am driven by the desire not to get winded climbing a flight of stairs. I’m driven by the increased energy I have been feeling since I started walking more. I’m driven to set a better example for Philip. I’m driven to keep up with Philip. I’m driven to by the desire to exert some control over my life when so many things seem beyond me.

So, after I publish this post, I’m going to pop in a DVD and workout. Then I can relax and read a book knowing that I’m taking care of myself and doing something to achieve my goals now and into next year.
