The nurse practitioner insisted that I was too old to have an ear infection. He diagnosed me with one (otitis media, to be exact) along with sinusitis and an upper respiratory infection, but he seemed fascinated by my ear.
“You really shouldn’t have an ear infection at your age.”
I didn’t need the reminder that I’m forty, not four, but I listened to him because I wanted a prescription to make it all go away. His observation wasn’t very helpful. It’s not like I could tell my ear to act my shoe size and not my age.
