Monday Mixtape: who’s that knocking at the door?

I’m trying to recall the last time I heard someone knock on a door. We live in a rural area on a dead end street. We can see and hear when people drive up to our house, so we’re usually waiting at the door. If not, the doorbell is the go-to way to catch our attention. The anemic brrrrrinnng! of our signal leaves something to be desired, I must say. Give me the solid sound of knuckles connecting with wood any day.

This week, yeah write posed this ultimate question: who’s that knocking at the door? Let’s see what song titles can supply an answer!

One wouldn’t have to pose this question people didn’t show up without being asked.

“Uninvited” by Alanis Morisette

One way to solve the mystery is obvious:

“Let ’em in” by Paul McCartney and Wings

Sometimes you have to be careful about opening your door to an unknown person on the other side.

“Mack the Knife” performed by Bobby Darin

Sometimes it is the visitor who should be careful. In this situation, the better question might be “who’s that sleeping in Grandma’s bed?”

“Little Red Riding Hood” by Sam the Sham and the Pharoahs

And then there’s that time when you take too long to answer the door and never know the answer to the question.

“She’s Not There” by The Zombies

It’s Day 2 of the NaBloPoMo/Nano Poblano/NoMo challenge!

  1. Haha!! Well, I never answer the door if I don’t know who is on the other side. Depending on whether I know who’s there I’ll either run and hide until they go away or yell at them to get off my porch. Not kidding. Don’t invade my space without an invitation, lol!

  2. What a fun/clever way to answer that prompt! We just finished an election campaign in Canada, which involved a lot of random people knocking at my door. I made the mistake of telling them I was undecided so they kept coming back!!!

  3. Love this! Great idea. I love making mix tapes (or I guess they’d be playlists now) so I love your whole concept for this. Like Stacie, I also thought Who Can it Be Now, from Men at Work. And yes, that Wings song is what got stuck in my head when I first read the prompt. 🙂
