Beyond the witching hour but before dawn cracks like an egg in the sky, brownies beat back boredom and chips are my crisp companions. My will power melts like butter in a skillet, my resolutions dissolve like this mint on my tongue.

    1. After publishing, I realized that I had failed completely in tone. I was trying to capture the self-loathing of overeating and ended up with a tribute to food. But everyone seems to like it, so I’m going with playfulness as if I had fully intended that.
