the impatient patient

“Bye” Philip said with his iPad for the third time. He was ready to leave the doctor’s office. I couldn’t blame him, especially after they swabbed his throat for the rapid strep test. That makes me gag, too, but we had to wait seven minutes to confirm that it was negative.

I took a photo hoping to distract him.

  1. Bless his heart. Let me just say as a speech therapist that nothing makes me feel worse than say to a child who is appropriately/functionally using his words (verbal or an AAC device) to say “bye,” “go” or “mom:” “No way, kid, this appointment isn’t over yet.”
