Small hands danced beside the dinner plate as if in conversation. Index fingers curled then extended while the other fingertips stood tall on Formica.
“No elephants at the table, please,” said Mother.
Each sounded a final trumpet before retreating to a lap.
This is how it’s done 🙂 Simply and elegantly told, a perfect little snapshot.

Thanks so much. I found myself wanting to take a photo because I was struggling to describe how the elephant was formed. I’m glad the words alone seemed like a snapshot.

Wonderful, Cyn, just wonderful! I’m loving how everyone interprets the elephants. This one worked really well.

This was inspired by a memory of my niece and was the first thing I thought of when I saw the question. Thanks!

Glad I could finally write it after having the children’s song “Un elefante” stuck in my head all week!

Hee! I actually had to try that out and make some elephants at my desk. They didn’t trumpet, though. That would be too silly for the office. 🙂 Great little vignette, Cyn!

Can’t be too serious in the office. It stifles creativity.

Sweet!! Reminded me of Charlie Chaplin’s bread dance.

Yes! I can see that, too.

I could picture this so clearly. I liked the final trumpet too.

That’s a relief. Like I mentioned in my reply to Kinley, I struggled with explaining what I saw. And the final trumpet was creative license.

If only it was so easy to get my daughter to listen at the dinner table.

Well, this wasn’t my child, so I can’t really relate to the obedience either.
