Nudged by his little hand I traced Ursa Major at midnight. He relaxed.
Would calm accompany him inside? Or would he jump from couch to trampoline then race across the room? And again more times than there are stars in the sky?
This is my response to the first ever Yeah Write Gargleblaster prompt. I had exactly forty-two words to answer the question, “What’s so amazing that keeps us stargazing?” Why don’t you give it a try? Find out more about the Gargleblaster here.
Beautiful!

Love it! Mine would choose jumping, for sure.

Knock on wood, my son’s bedtimes have been more reasonable lately. Good thing, since it’s too cold to sit outside!

Thanks- I started with almost 300 words. Murdering “my darlings” was a challenge, but fun.

I hope he was calmed. I’m tired just thinking about all of that jumping!

Sometimes it worked to sit outside, sometimes not.

I hope the calm was inside and out. Sometimes their activity is exhausting 🙂

Last night, I really wished it was warmer so we could sit outside. There was a lot of racing around.

Love the energy of little kids.

It’s admirable, but it loses it’s appeal any time after midnight.

Haha, a think a child’s energy is more bounding than there are stars in the sky! Wish I still had that kind of energy.

I know. Wish I could bottle that stuff.

I used to love sitting out on the patio at night with my kids, calm and peaceful, until the mosquitoes would finally drive us in.

I can’t wait until our deck gets built (and it’s finally warmer) so we can count stars again to calm down for bed.

Ha! It’s a gamble, isn’t it? I love that you started with 300 words and pared it down to 42. That’s partly what the gargleblaster is about – finding the core of what you want to say, and saying it beautifully. You did a great job!

I loved this… I am sending it to a friend in LA who has a son this might describe… she is a rock, but they weep too, and this is a sweet shoulder. She may not feel so alone.
