Last month I instituted a new, fun way to recognize my blog readers. Of course, saying that I “instituted” a new monthly feature sucks the fun right out of it.
Lucky for me, one of my readers isn’t such a stick in the mud. Jenny, who blogs over at Little Miss Jenny Leigh, revealed an interesting tidbit about herself in response to my post “What a drag!”

I grew up spending summer weekends at the dragstrip with my dad. He races a Super Stock ’69 Mustang. Just reading this made me smell the racing fuel and miss those days.
I raced in the street class once at a Fun Ford event and went three rounds. You have to try it if you get an opportunity!! It is sooo much fun, best rush ever. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Ahhh, the memories!
I selected Jenny’s comment over all the other funny, touching and informative responses in July because I admire the way that she both shared a little bit about herself and encouraged others to give drag racing a try. Drag racing not your thing? Then be adventurous and find some other new way to get your “best rush ever.”
Jenny, thank you for reading the post and taking the time to comment. I’m glad that my words brought back fond memories. Also, you know that when I finally do decide to try it myself, I’ll blog all about the day I went drag racing.
I think that would be an awesome rush! The closest I’ve ever gotten to drag racing is go-cart racing, which is pretty fun, but I’m sure not even close to the same!

Dad spent his life building up the old muscle cars from the days gone by. Every Friday night we sat in pits at the Ohio Valley drag strip in Ky. We waited to see what his “times” would be. Then every Saturday night we were back in the pits to watch him race. He had such a passion for the sport. Sadly I seen it more of a hassle then a blessing. I never had a hankering to speed down the strip. Fast forward 20 years and my children all share his passion for drag racing. My son is itching to race in the jr dragsters! Thanks for sharing your drag stories.

I can imagine that, as kids, we feel one extreme or another: really into our dads’ hobbies or thoroughly bored. I’m glad that your kids share his enthusiasm

It’s fun, but it was so hard to pick one. I guess that’s a good problem to have.
